I lived in Arequipa, Peru from September 2011 to November 2012. I taught English, practiced Muay Thai, and got really into learning Peruvian slang. I also visited Lima, Cuzco, Colca Canyon, and Playa Mollendo.
How Not to Pee
I’ve seen more ‘how to not pee’ signs here in Peru than probably my entire life. I guess they’re necessary.
Please Do Not Pee or Poop In Public
I guess this happens often enough so as to justify a sign prohibiting it.
Bathroom Signs
Peru has some of the most interesting bathroom signs I have ever seen.
November 7th, I’m finally 23. I’d like to give a big shoutout today to my friend and brother in the bond, Kelly Bayas. He took off for New York today but bought me 2 nice pillows before he left. Although it might seem like a minuscule gift, it’s going to make all the difference. I’ll miss you man. Don’t get a splinter building that barn in Canada.

Went as Goose from Top Gun last night for Halloween. Peruvian girls said, “Oh my god you’re like Tom Cruises best friend from that one movie” and Americans just yelled, “TOP GUN!!!!!” So basically it was a win-win last night.

At least they acknowledge the fact that tearing up the main street in Arequipa causes a bit of a hassle for traffic.
This is the booth where I get keys made for about 60 cents a piece. If you need something in Peru, there’s always a way to get it. Every week I ask my Peruvian roommate a more ridiculous question about obtaining illegal merchandise. It started with brass knuckles and yesterday it was an automatic machine gun. With every response he says, “Why the hell do you want a machine gun? You’re crazy. But seriously, if you need one I know a place…”
