PERU

Country Overview:

"Arequipa, the white city of Peru and the gateway to the Colca Canyon, offers travelers a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty."

Located in the heart of southern Peru, Arequipa is a city that showcases the best of what the country has to offer. From its stunning colonial architecture and rich cultural heritage, to its beautiful natural surroundings and delicious cuisine, Arequipa has something for everyone. Arequipa is a hidden gem — it's a place where you can experience the very best of Peruvian culture and history, all while enjoying the beauty of the Andes mountains and the Colca Canyon. Whether you're looking to explore the city's historic center, sample its delicious cuisine, or simply relax in its peaceful surroundings, Arequipa should definitely be on your travel list.

I lived in Arequipa, Peru from September 2011 to November 2012. I taught English, practiced Muay Thai, and got really into learning Peruvian slang. I also visited Lima, Cuzco, Colca Canyon, and Playa Mollendo.

What's up best friends?!

I could use some Sriracha if anyone out there is feeling amicable. Shipping here is a bit shady, so for a guaranteed arrival, I recommend using UPS/Fed Ex/DHL. Although this shouldn’t be a problem for the majority of my friends, please don’t include anything of value more than $100 or I’ll have to pay taxes. I’m a big fan of post cards too.

My address is

Degen Hill

220 Calle Misti

Yanahuara, Arequipa, Peru

South America

Shout-out to my brother Mackenzie today; I’ll never forget that Boise State victory and those 2 wild nights we had in Vegas last year. Blood will always be thicker than water.

Living abroad has its pro’s and con’s, the latter being the realization of things you miss, the majority of which are people (drinking fountains are a close 2nd). Not having Facebook has saved me a lot of time, but is a pain in the ass when trying to contact people. If you wanna send me a message, e-mail me at ‘degenh@hotmail.com’ and I’ll get back to you pronto. Even if it’s to say “your blog sucks”, it’d be nice to read some english. Happy 3 day weekend from Peru!

As I think about the journey that lies ahead of me, I can’t help think about the people I’ll miss and the memories we’ve had. And boy we’ve had some good ones. I’ll get an address in Peru posted as soon as I find out and if you want to send me your address, I’ll see what I can do about a ‘souvenir’ of sorts. I’d love to hear about your lives and if you’re reading this, I’ll work on making future posts more interesting. Salud
